Africa U-14 Tennis Championship to Be Held in Dar es Salaam
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Tanzania is set to host the prestigious Africa Under-14 Tennis Championships for the first time, with the event scheduled to take place from April 6 to 13, 2025, at the Gymkhana Grounds in Dar es Salaam.
In a press briefing held earlier today in Dar es Salaam, Rajabu Borry, Vice President of the Tanzania Tennis Association (TTA), expressed pride in the nation being selected to host the regional tournament, which brings together some of the continent’s most promising young talent.
“This is a proud moment for Tanzania as we welcome, for the very first time, this age-group championship,” said Borry. He added that preparations were progressing well in collaboration with the National Sports Council (Baraza la Michezo la Taifa - BMT), and anticipated that the event would draw significant attention and visitors.
Eight African nations are set to participate in the tournament: Tanzania (host), Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Cameroon, Algeria, South Africa, and Nigeria.
“We are grateful for this opportunity and are working diligently to ensure the tournament is a resounding success,” Borry noted.
Head Coach of the Tanzania national junior tennis team, Majuto Majaliwa, affirmed that the home team had undergone rigorous preparation through various practice tournaments, instilling confidence in their competitiveness.
Echoing these sentiments, coach Hamis Chande described the tournament as a momentous occasion for Tanzania. He noted that the last time the country hosted a junior-level tennis tournament was for players under the age of 12, making this an important milestone.
Chande also commended the continued efforts of various stakeholders in ensuring the championship not only succeeds but also elevates Tanzania’s status on the international tennis stage.
