Yanga, Tabora Set for High-Stakes Clash in Premier League Return

April 2, 2025

The NBC Premier League resumes today with a thrilling encounter as Tabora United welcome defending champions Yanga SC to the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.

This match marks a highly anticipated rematch following Tabora United’s shocking 3-1 victory over Yanga in their previous meeting at Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam. At the time, Anicet Kiazmak was at the helm for Tabora, while Yanga were managed by Miguel Gamondi. Both coaches have since parted ways with their respective clubs.

Yanga currently lead the league standings with 58 points from 22 matches, while Tabora United sit in fifth place with 37 points from 23 games.

Speaking ahead of the match, Yanga head coach Miloud Hamdi emphasized his side’s focus and determination, despite not being on the bench during the previous defeat.

“I have studied the last game thoroughly and identified areas where we must improve to avoid another loss. We understand how crucial this match is, and we’re approaching it with full seriousness,” Hamdi said on Tuesday.

He further noted the intensity every team brings when facing Yanga:
“Every match is tough because we are Yanga. Our opponents always give their best, and we must match that level of commitment.”

Meanwhile, Tabora United’s head coach Genesis Mang’ombe expressed confidence in his squad's readiness to replicate their previous success.

“Although I wasn’t part of the technical bench during our last win over Yanga, our fans now expect another victory. It won’t be easy, but we've prepared well across all departments—from defense to attack. We’re aiming for nothing less than a win,” said Mang’ombe.

As both sides gear up, all eyes will be on this encounter which could significantly shape the title race and the top-five standings in the league.
