Yanga SC Unveils Strategic Tourism Partnership with Zanzibar

Friday, March 28, 2025

Dar es Salaam – Tanzanian football powerhouse Young Africans SC (Yanga) has launched an ambitious initiative aimed at promoting tourism in Zanzibar by leveraging the club’s growing success and popularity on the pitch.

Currently topping the Tanzania Mainland Premier League standings with 58 points from 22 matches, Yanga has announced a special partnership with the Zanzibar Ministry of Tourism and Heritage to elevate the visibility of the island's tourist attractions. The collaboration goes beyond wearing jerseys emblazoned with "Visit Zanzibar"—it now includes educational campaigns designed to raise awareness about the island’s diverse tourism offerings.

The announcement was made on Friday, March 28, 2025, by Yanga President Hersi Said during a press briefing to officially unveil the extended partnership with the Zanzibar Ministry of Tourism and Heritage.

“We, at Young Africans SC, regard the Ministry of Tourism and Heritage as the eye of Zanzibar. This partnership is not only about promoting Zanzibar through our club, but also about educating the public on all the unique attractions the islands offer,” said Hersi.

The collaboration, which began earlier this season, will now run through to the end of the 2025/26 football season. Hersi confirmed that the "Visit Zanzibar" logo will continue to appear on the team’s jerseys in all competitions during this period.

“There is no need to travel to Ibiza or Dubai for leisure when we have Zanzibar. Why spend your money abroad when Zanzibar, blessed with stunning attractions, is right here? As a club, we are committed to drawing more local and international tourists to visit these beautiful islands,” Hersi emphasized.

The Zanzibar Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mudrick Ramadhan Soraga, commended Yanga’s commitment to the tourism sector and highlighted the strategic value of such partnerships.

“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the leadership of Young Africans SC, under the presidency of Engineer Hersi Said, for the unwavering support and partnership from the beginning until now. This collaboration to promote Zanzibar’s tourism is a critical step,” said Soraga.

He further noted that despite Zanzibar's strong brand presence in tourism, the sector faces increasing competition from neighboring island destinations, making it essential for the ministry to enhance its promotional strategies.

“Tourism is a highly competitive industry. Despite our global recognition, we face significant competition from nearby islands. This partnership is vital in reinforcing our presence,” Soraga added.

Throughout the ongoing season, Yanga has proudly sported the “Visit Zanzibar” logo during its participation in the CAF Champions League, marking a key visual component of the club’s advocacy for Zanzibar tourism.
