The Tanzanian government has revealed that a total of TZS 67 trillion has been invested in the country over the past four years, marking a significant milestone in national economic development.
Since President Samia Suluhu Hassan assumed office in 2021, the country has registered 2,099 investment projects through the Tanzania Investment Centre (TIC), with 1,982 of these projects successfully launched.
Speaking during an official visit to Kwala Dry Port and the Sino-Tan Industrial Zone in Vigwaza, Kibaha, Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa highlighted the exponential growth of investments, particularly in the industrial sector.
Industrial Investment Drives Economic Transformation
"Investment in industries has played a crucial role in Tanzania’s economic transformation campaign," Msigwa stated.
Providing further insights, he detailed that of the newly established projects, 476 are joint ventures, 117 involve the expansion of existing investment areas, 719 are Tanzanian-owned, and 904 are foreign investments.
Msigwa emphasized that the industrial sector remains the largest contributor to national investment, with 951 industrial projects registered between 2021 and February 2025. These projects are expected to generate 124,339 jobs and attract capital investments totaling approximately TZS 27 trillion.
"Industrial projects alone account for 45% of all registered investments between 2021 and 2025," he noted.
Manufacturing Sector Leads in Investment Growth
Msigwa elaborated that industrial investments represent 42% of all registered capital investments within the four-year period, underscoring the manufacturing sector's dominance in employment creation, capital injection, and project numbers.
Breaking down the figures, he revealed:
-
A total of 951 industrial projects have been registered.
-
917 new industrial projects have been launched.
-
36 projects focus on industrial expansion.
-
244 industrial projects are locally owned.
-
501 industrial projects are foreign-owned.
-
206 projects involve joint ventures.
"The data confirms that the number of industries is increasing significantly each year, reinforcing Tanzania’s industrialization journey and the successful economic policies led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan," Msigwa added.
Coast Region: A Prime Investment Destination
Msigwa further noted that the Coast Region ranks second in attracting investments nationwide, following Dar es Salaam. From 2021 to February 2025, the region has welcomed 369 investment projects, with 247 (67%) being industrial ventures.
"The total capital invested across all sectors in the Coast Region stands at TZS 12.4 trillion, with the industrial sector contributing TZS 7.5 trillion, accounting for 61% of the region’s total investments," he stated.
The Tanzanian government continues to position the country as a prime investment hub, reinforcing its industrial growth and economic expansion strategies. With continued efforts to enhance investment policies, the nation is set for sustained economic progress in the coming years.
