Netanyahu Vows Retaliation as Hamas Accuses Israel of Targeting Children in Tufah
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed a forceful response following a rocket barrage launched from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel on Sunday.
In a statement issued during his flight to Washington, Netanyahu confirmed he had spoken with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, emphasizing the need for swift and decisive retaliation.
The Israeli military reported that 10 rockets were fired from Gaza, most of which were intercepted by its defense systems. Air raid sirens echoed across Ashkelon and Ashdod as the rockets targeted communities near the border.
The attack, claimed by Hamas militants, prompted Netanyahu’s strong warning, escalating tensions as efforts continue to revive ceasefire negotiations in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
One person was reported injured in the city of Ashkelon due to the rocket fire.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces announced they had shot and killed a Palestinian man and wounded two others in Turmus Ayya, a town located in the occupied West Bank.
The exchange comes amid heightened hostilities and renewed international efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas. The situation remains volatile, with both sides accusing each other of targeting civilians. Hamas, in turn, accused Israel of deliberately striking children in the village of Tufah, a claim that has further intensified the already fraught atmosphere.
