Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza Kill Hamas Spokesman and Family of Six
Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip overnight and into Thursday have resulted in the deaths of a prominent Hamas spokesman and a family of six, amid intensifying military operations in the region.
According to Basem Naim, a senior Hamas official, Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua — a spokesperson for the group — was killed when an Israeli strike targeted the tent he was staying in within the Jabaliya area of northern Gaza.
In a separate incident, another airstrike struck near Gaza City, killing four children and their parents. The deaths were confirmed by the emergency services of Gaza’s Health Ministry, highlighting the increasing toll on civilians as the conflict escalates.
The renewed wave of Israeli strikes follows the collapse of a temporary ceasefire with Hamas last week. In a surprise offensive, Israel launched a series of airstrikes that reportedly killed hundreds of Palestinians. Israeli authorities have since pledged to intensify their operations unless Hamas agrees to three conditions: the release of all remaining hostages, the group’s complete disarmament, and their withdrawal from Gaza.
Hamas has responded by stating it will only release the remaining 59 hostages — of whom 24 are believed to be alive — under the condition of a permanent ceasefire and a full Israeli withdrawal from the territory.
As diplomatic efforts stall, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with international observers urging renewed negotiations to prevent further civilian casualties.
