Your Role: What We Can Accomplish Together
TNC is seeking a Financial Compliance Officer to join its Africa Region team. This role will be instrumental in ensuring adherence to financial regulations, managing audit processes, and supporting financial compliance across operations in the region. The successful candidate will be based in Arusha, Cape Town, or Nairobi.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure adherence to TNC’s financial policies, legal regulations, and operational commitments.

Lead coordination and execution of all audits — internal, external, country-specific, donor, tax, and statutory.

Manage relationships with auditors, overseeing audit planning, implementation, and timely submission of reports.

Review financial statements and audit reports to support regional operations.

Promote a strong compliance culture, maintaining thorough documentation of financial transactions.

Maintain an audit recommendation register, track implementation, and support closure of identified gaps.

Conduct risk assessments, develop mitigation strategies, and support implementation across country programs.

Partner with leadership to carry out control reviews, fraud investigations, and compliance assessments.

Provide regular spot checks to ensure adherence to internal financial standards.

Assist with reviews of journal entries and ensure documentation aligns with internal policies.

Manage timely tax and statutory filings and other regulatory certifications for the region.

Coordinate with accounting vendors, Finance Specialists, and Operations Administrators on all compliance-related tasks.

Stay updated on changes to local government finance laws and tax regulations.

Provide training and guidance to staff and partners on compliance, taxation, and regulatory updates.

Collaborate with global finance teams to implement systemic improvements and new finance initiatives, including ERP rollouts.
What You’ll Bring
-
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related discipline with a minimum of 4 years’ relevant experience, or an equivalent combination.

Proficiency with accounting software, financial reporting systems, and Microsoft Excel.

Demonstrated ability to analyze, interpret, and manage financial data.

Experience managing multiple projects across different countries or regions.

Strong knowledge of not-for-profit financial regulations, taxation, grant compliance, and reporting standards.

Certified professional qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIA, or equivalent.

Solid background in auditing and tax matters.
Preferred Qualifications

Multi-lingual and/or experience working in multicultural environments.

Advanced Excel expertise and excellent organizational skills.

Previous experience in non-profit financial accounting.

Outstanding communication and reporting skills.

Demonstrated team collaboration and multitasking capabilities.

Awareness of current trends in financial and regulatory landscapes.

Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.

Precision and attention to detail in handling complex financial issues.
