LONDON, ENGLAND – Arsenal legend Martin Keown has disclosed that the North London club has already secured the signing of a new striker in a move aimed at strengthening their attacking line.
Since the 2019/20 season, only former club captain and striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has managed to score more than 20 goals in a single campaign—highlighting Arsenal’s ongoing struggle to find a consistent goal-scorer.
Swedish forward Alexander Isak, currently with Newcastle United, has been among the names linked with a potential move to the Emirates. Other rumoured targets include Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres and Juventus frontman Dusan Vlahovic.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Keown acknowledged Arsenal’s need for a prolific striker but expressed doubts over the feasibility of signing Isak, especially following Newcastle’s recent Carabao Cup triumph.
“I get the sense that signing Isak right now would be difficult, particularly after Newcastle’s cup win,” said Keown.
“Everyone is aware of that. There's a new sporting director in place who will be looking at potential signings, ideally identifying top talent without overspending.”
Despite the speculation, Keown appears confident that Arsenal have already completed a key forward signing behind the scenes.
“I’d go as far as saying a player has already been bought and the deal is done. They can’t afford to make mistakes again,” he emphasized.
Keown pointed to Arsenal’s lack of a dependable goal-scorer as the primary issue holding the team back this season. However, not everyone shares that view. Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher countered that Arsenal's challenges stem more from a lack of creativity in the final third, arguing the team struggles to generate enough quality scoring chances.
