Job Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified, experienced and competent individuals for the post of Principal Officer for the Centenary Pension Fund (CPF) (a restricted pension scheme commencing Ist February 2026) tenable at Head Office, Lilongwe.
Job Purpose
Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Trustees and administratively to the Head of Human Resources and Administration, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the strategic, operational, and regulatory functions of the CPF in accordance with the Pensions Act, Fund Rules, and applicable financial sector laws, under the authority of the Board of Trustees. The Principal Officer also leads the administration of the CPF. (NB: This is a managerial role pegged at the Bank’s functional manager grade and salary and benefits scale.)
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Strategy
- Lead CPF’ s strategic direction in alignment with Fund objectives.
- Advise and support the Board of Trustees on fiduciary and regulatory matters.
- Ensure compliance with governance frameworks and statutory obligations.
- Represent CPF in stakeholder engagements and industry forums.
Investment Oversight
- Ensure Fund assets are invested per the Investment Policy, Trust Deed, and relevant legislation.
- Advise on asset classes, reinvestment of surplus income, and monitor investment performance.
- Coordinate service providers (custodian, actuary, auditor) and ensure investment income is properly credited.
- Safeguard Fund interests, manage conflicts, and uphold proxy voting protocols.
Benefits Administration
- Maintain accurate member records and ensure timely communication, especially to rural members.
- Oversee benefits processing, member statements, and compliance with reporting timelines.
- Facilitate AGM, statutory submissions, and member access to Fund information.
- Advise Trustees on legislative updates and ensure regulatory compliance.
Custodial Services
- Ensure secure custody and registration of CPF securities.
- Reconcile dividends, coupons, and provide monthly reports on holdings and market valuations.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills / Competencies
- Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Law, Commerce, or Business Administration, Public Administration.
- Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, CIMA) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years in pension administration, with 3 years at strategic level.
- Strong financial acumen, governance expertise, and pension legislation knowledge.
- Proven stakeholder management and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word).
