We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Business Development Manager to join our Commercial Banking team, focusing on the Middle Corporate segment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving new client acquisition, developing and executing strategic business development plans, and building a robust pipeline of high-quality commercial banking relationships. This role is crucial for expanding our market share and achieving our growth targets within the middle-market corporate space.
The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of commercial lending products, treasury management services, and other financial solutions tailored to the needs of mid-sized companies. They will be a proactive, results-oriented professional with exceptional sales acumen, strong credit analysis skills, and a proven track record of originating new business.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Development & Client Acquisition:
- Proactively identify, prospect, and originate new commercial banking relationships with middle-market companies.
- Develop and implement a strategic business development plan to meet and exceed annual new business and revenue targets.
- Cultivate a network of key referral sources, including accountants, attorneys, private equity firms, and other professional advisors.
- Engage in targeted cold-calling, networking events, and industry conferences to generate leads and build a robust sales pipeline.
- Financial Solutions & Structuring:
- Collaborate with clients to understand their financial needs and objectives, including capital structure, growth strategies, and operational requirements.
- Structure and propose a full suite of commercial banking products, including but not limited to:
- Commercial & Industrial (C&I) loans
- Working Capital and short-term, long-term financing needs
- Lines of credit, term loans, and equipment financing
- Cash management and treasury solutions
- Letters of credit and foreign exchange services
- Work closely with internal product specialists (e.g., Treasury Management, Foreign Exchange, Global Trade, Branches) to deliver comprehensive and integrated solutions.
- Credit Analysis & Underwriting:
- Conduct thorough financial analysis and due diligence on prospective clients.
- Prepare comprehensive credit memorandums and present recommendations to the Credit Committee.
- Partner with credit analysts and underwriters to ensure a smooth and efficient approval process while maintaining a high level of credit quality.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the client throughout the underwriting and closing process.
- Relationship Management & Servicing:
- Effectively transition new clients to a dedicated Relationship Manager post-closing, ensuring a seamless handover.
- Maintain a high level of client satisfaction and act as a senior point of contact for complex issues or new opportunities with key clients.
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify potential risks or new needs within the managed portfolio.
- Market & Industry Expertise:
- Stay abreast of economic trends, market conditions, and competitive landscape within the middle-market corporate segment.
- Develop and demonstrate a deep understanding of key industries, such as manufacturing, distribution, professional services, technology, and healthcare.
- Represent the bank at community and professional events to enhance the institution’s brand and presence.
You Will Be An Ideal Candidate If You Have
- The relevant degree
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in commercial banking, corporate lending, or a similar financial services role.
- Proven track record of success in new business development and client origination, specifically within the middle-market segment.
- Demonstrable experience in structuring and closing a variety of commercial loan transactions.
- Strong credit analysis skills and a solid understanding of financial statements.
