Key Operations in Uganda

1. National ICT Infrastructure Development
Huawei has been instrumental in developing Uganda’s ICT infrastructure. Notably, the company was selected to implement the National Backbone Infrastructure (NBI) project, aiming to provide reliable and competitive broadband services across the country.

2. Smart City and Surveillance Projects
Since 2014, Huawei has been contracted to install CCTV cameras throughout Uganda, including on major roadways. These cameras utilize facial recognition technology to enhance public security and traffic management.

3. 5G Deployment
In April 2023, Huawei, in collaboration with MTN Uganda and HIMA Cement, launched Uganda’s first 5G industrial application at a cement plant. This initiative marked a significant step towards advanced manufacturing capabilities in the country.

4. Smart Village Initiative
Huawei has proposed the establishment of a Digital Village Prototype in Uganda. This project includes a solar-powered micro-grid, a network tower, and smart classroom equipment, aiming to demonstrate how digital infrastructure can revolutionize rural areas.

5. SME Digitalization Program
In May 2024, Huawei launched a cloud program tailored for Ugandan Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The initiative provides cloud services, technical support, and training to enhance the digital capabilities of local businesses.

6. Digital Skills Training
Through the DigiTruck initiative, Huawei has empowered over 6,000 Ugandans with digital skills. This mobile digital classroom aligns with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap and Vision 2040, aiming to bridge the digital divide and foster employment opportunities.

🌍 Trade and Supply Chain

Huawei Technologies Uganda Co. Ltd engages in both import and export activities. The company primarily imports telecommunications equipment from China and Hong Kong, including network devices and power systems. Export activities are relatively limited but include shipments to countries like Hong Kong and Burundi.
