Step 1: Apply Online

The first step in the registration process is to apply online. Prospective students should visit the Wits Application Portal to start their application. Here, you can apply for up to three programmes, and it’s essential to ensure that you meet the admission requirements for your chosen degree. Remember to apply before the closing date and use your full names as they appear on your official documents.

Step 2: Pay Application Fee and Upload Supporting Documents

After applying, you will need to pay an application fee and upload the necessary supporting documents. The application fee is R100 for South African citizens and R700 for international applicants. Payments can be made via the Self-Service Portal, and supporting documents can be uploaded there as well.

Step 3: Check Your Application Status

Once you have applied and submitted your documents, you can check the status of your application on the Wits Student Self-Service Portal. Wits will acknowledge your application, and you can follow up on any pending actions from there.

Below are the dates that online registration opens and closes on the student self-service portal. Returning and postgraduate students in the Health Sciences, Education and Management students have different dates – please consult directly with your Faculty office.

  • New first year students in Faculty of Health Science: 10 January to 13 January 2020
  • New first year students in Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Faculty: 10 January to 14 January 2020
  • New first year students in Faculty of Science: 10 January to 15 January 2020
  • New first year students in Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management: 10 January to 16 January 2020
  • New first year students in Faculty of Humanities (excluding School of Education): 10 January to 17 January 2020
  • New first year students in School of Education: 10 January to 20 January 2020

STEP 1:

  • Check the registration dates for your Faculty
  • Log on to Wits Student Self-Service Portal (https://self-service.wits.ac.za).
  • New Applicants must accept their Firm Offer before proceeding to register online.
    Please ensure that all required certified documentation for your academic qualifications has been provided to the Student Enrolment Centre in hard copy before you accept your Firm Offer. Applicants who upload academic qualifications via the Student Self Service Portal would need to comply with this requirement.

STEP 2:

  • Click on the Academic Information tile.
  • Click on Online Registration.

STEP 3:

  • Click on “Next” to proceed with Online Registration.
  • Verify your personal details. Click on “Register Online” link.

STEP 4:

  • FIXED CURRICULUM: (1) Select Courses & Slots (2) Click “Validate”  (3) Click “Enrol” (4) Accept Terms & Conditions  (5) Click “Submit”
  • FLEXIBLE CURRICULUM: (1) Click on “Choices” (2) Select “Courses”  (3) Click “Add to the Planner”  (4) Click “Return”  (5) Click “Validate” (6) Click “Enrol”  (7) Accept Terms & Conditions  (8) Click “Submit”

STEP 5:

You are now registered.

  1. To send the Proof of Registration to your email:
    • Click on the Academic Information tile.
    • Click on Proof of Registration > Click on View details button >Enter the year/term >Then click Generate.
  2. To Print your Proof of Registration, access your Wits Email address, open the attachment and click “Print”

STEP 6:

New undergraduate first year students complete the Biographical Questionnaire. If you require assistance, please email [email protected].

STEP 7:

To finish the Online Registration Process, please apply for Clubs and Societies or Parking on the Student Self Service Portal.
Sign Out.

STEP 8:

After you have registered, please collect / renew your student card, and parking permit (if applicable), before the academic year begins.

  • If you are a first year student, collect your registration bag from the Student Enrolment Centre.
  • Collect or renew your “Kudu” card as follows:
    • Braamfontein Campus
      Central Block second floor, behind the Exams Hall – New and Returning Students, or
      Concourse, Solomon Mahlangu (Senate House) – All categories of Campus users.
    • Parktown Campus
    • Education Campus
      Admin Block first floor – All categories of Campus users.
  • You are required to provide proof of identification, such as your ID document, passport or driver’s licence.
