Introduction

Lattice seeks an experienced Senior Business Development Manager to lead opportunity mapping, business origination, and proposal writing for our advisory services focused on the blue economy and aquaculture sectors. The successful candidate will work closely with senior executives who have demanding schedules, ensuring seamless coordination and high-quality delivery of strategic business development initiatives and proposals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, research, and map new business opportunities across the blue economy and aquaculture value chains in Africa and globally.
  • Engage with existing and potential clients through discrete outreach and relationship-building efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with senior executives to align opportunity origination with strategic priorities and available capacity.
  • Lead and/or support the development of compelling, tailored proposals and concept notes for donor-funded projects, private sector engagements, and partnership opportunities.
  • Manage proposal submission schedules, coordinate inputs from multiple stakeholders, and ensure adherence to deadlines.
  • Organize and host meetings with senior executives and clients, managing complex calendars effectively.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to inform business development strategies.
  • Prepare concise briefing notes, presentations, and develop powerful impact reports to show the difference we have made to senior management and external partners. 
  • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements in all business development activities.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and mentorship to Lattice staff
  • Develop a growth strategy focused on both financial gain and customer satisfaction.

Key Performance Indicators

The incumbent will be assessed on:

  • Opportunity sourcing: Volume and quality of identified business leads aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Proposal success rate and quality of submissions.
  • Effectiveness in managing schedules and coordination with senior executives.
  • Communication clarity, persuasiveness, and timeliness.
  • Relationship management with clients and partners.
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively to anticipate executive needs.

How you'll succeed

  • Strategic thinker with strong sector knowledge in blue economy and aquaculture advisory contexts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of crafting persuasive proposals and articulating complex programmatic concepts succinctly and compelling narratives
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working with senior leaders and managing competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Collaborative team player with a knack for building and sustaining productive relationships.
  • Tech-savvy, proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), and proposal management tools.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in business, environmental sciences, economics, or related fields preferred. MBA is a plus.
  • At least 7 years of experience in business development, consulting, or advisory services within the blue economy, aquaculture, or related sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience working with senior executives and managing high-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Proven track record of successful proposal writing and business origination.
  • Flexibility to work part-time hours with high efficiency and accountability.
