COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER – WEB DEVELOPMENT 

Bishop Mackenzie International School – BMIS, the only IB School in Malawi located in Lilongwe, is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the vacant position of Communications Officer – Web Development.

Job Purpose

To develop and maintain BMIS’s website to ensure the design, user experience and functionality reflects the school’s standing in the BMIS community and the country.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain front-end features of school’s websites using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, WordPress;
  • Ensure the school’s websites are optimised for performance and accessibility with mobile-first and SEO-friendly structure;
  • Conduct technical SEO audits and implement improvements (site speed, indexing, sitemaps, schema, etc.);
  • Perform keyword research and optimize web pages for on-page SEO, meta tags, and content relevancy;
  • Build landing pages optimized for CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation);
  • Monitor organic performance using Google Analytics, Search Console, SEMrush, or Ahrefs;
  • Troubleshoot and resolve website errors, broken links, and technical issues;
  • Being part of the Communications team, collaborate and assist the team to align SEO strategy with campaigns;
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT or Computer Science
  • Proven experience in web developing

Other requirements and Skills

  • At least 2–3 years’ experience in SEO and web development
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and WordPress CMS
  • Strong knowledge of SEO best practices, Google algorithms, and technical SEO
  • Strong knowledge of Secure Coding Best Practices
  • Familiar with UX/UI and A/B testing for performance optimization
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
