Description

Louis Dreyfus Company is hiring Field Technicians to implement the Company’s sustainability strategy including Responsible Sourcing (RS) and Stronger Coffee Initiative (SCI) in the field, working with farmer groups and suppliers.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Implement the Responsible Sourcing activities in the field including working with existing farmer groups, carrying out farmer training and field visit activities and forming new farmer groups where necessary (help identify new areas).
  • Capture farmer data such as GPS Coordinates and Polygons into digital system.
  • Promote the buying of responsibly sourced coffee through engaging farmers and suppliers on the best practices.
  • Regularly report on the implementation of the field sustainability operations to the team leader.
  • Promote the sourcing of traceable coffee through monitoring bulking centers and training supply chain actors on record keeping.
  • Recruit and onboard new farmers into the responsible coffee sourcing chain.
  • Carryout internal farm inspection on all farmers registered in the responsible sourcing chain.
  • Participate in implementation of Stronger Coffee Initiative activities in the supply chain, promote productive coordination in the field with external SCl partners active in supporting LDC RS farmers.
  • Perform any other ad-hoc duties as requested by direct supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2-3 years of experience in sustainability programs including certifications, preferably in coffee.
  • Education: Diploma preferably in agriculture or a related field.
  • Languages: In addition to English, Runyankole is a must.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge in agriculture, especially coffee agronomy and supply chain dynamics.
  • Experience in working with certified supply chains (e.g., Rainforest Alliance, 4C).
  • Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office and good knowledge of using digital tools.
  • Willing and able to reside in a rural setting close to the farmers’ groups and suppliers.
  • The ability to ride a motorcycle is a MUST with a valid riding license or willingness to process one.
  • Sound time and community engagement skills.
  • Exceptional active listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
