The Big Deal — Amil and the UnitedHealth Acquisition

In 2012, a landmark deal reshaped the trajectory of Bueno’s legacy: UnitedHealth Group acquired 90% of Amil for approximately US$4.9 billion.

As part of the agreement, Bueno joined UnitedHealth’s board and became the insurer’s largest individual shareholder. He also retained a minority stake in Amil and continued to shape healthcare strategy at scale in Latin America even after the acquisition.

Beyond Amil, Bueno invested in Dasa — currently one of the largest diagnostic laboratory chains in Latin America.
