About Company
The Refugee Investment Network (RIN) is a global initiative focused on mobilizing private capital to support refugee self-reliance and economic inclusion. In Uganda, RIN has been instrumental in identifying and supporting refugee-led and refugee-supporting enterprises, conducting market assessments, and developing investment roadmaps to foster economic opportunities for refugees and host communities.
RIN’s Work in Uganda
RIN has conducted in-depth assessments to identify market and policy barriers to Refugee Lens Investing (RLI) in Uganda. These assessments have highlighted key sectors and business models that can drive impact, such as value addition in agriculture and improving market access for refugee entrepreneurs. Notable enterprises supported by RIN in Uganda include:
-
KadAfrica: Engages over 3,000 refugees in agribusiness value chains, offering guaranteed markets for crops grown by refugee out-growers.
-
Gulu Agricultural Development Company (GADC): Operates in crisis-affected regions, employing over 850 people, with more than 80% being forcibly displaced or from refugee host communities.
-
The Portico Limited: Produces eco-friendly biofuels, creating income-generating opportunities for low-income communities, including refugees.
These enterprises exemplify RIN’s commitment to fostering sustainable livelihoods and economic growth in refugee-hosting areas.
