Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary is a renowned wildlife refuge situated on a 100-acre rainforest island in Lake Victoria, approximately 23 kilometers southeast of Entebbe, Uganda. Established in 1998, the sanctuary provides a safe haven for over 50 orphaned and rescued eastern chimpanzees, many of whom were victims of poaching or the illegal pet trade. Managed by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT), a non-profit organization, the sanctuary is supported by a coalition of conservation partners, including the Jane Goodall Institute, Born Free Foundation, and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre .
