About Company

The National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) is a state-owned enterprise in Uganda, established in 1989 by an Act of Parliament. It serves as the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MODVA) and the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF). NEC’s primary mission is to produce and provide goods and services beneficial to the Defence Forces, veterans, and the general public.

  1. NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd: Engaged in construction and engineering projects for both military and civilian sectors. Notably, NEC is constructing the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja, aiming to produce electric vehicles in Uganda.

  2. Luwero Industries Ltd: Manufactures and repairs armored vehicles, electronic equipment, ordnance, and agricultural equipment. In June 2021, it began producing medical oxygen for public and private medical institutions in Uganda.

  3. NEC Agro SMC Ltd: Focuses on agricultural production and processing to support food security.

  4. NEC Uzima Ltd: Produces and sells Uzima Natural Mineral Water.NEC Security Services Ltd: Offers customized security services and solutions to various clients, including large corporations and individuals.

  5. NEC Pharmaceuticals Ltd: Currently undergoing revitalization to enhance pharmaceutical production capabilities.

  6. NEC Farm Ltd: Engaged in agricultural activities, including cattle fattening for beef export and supplying quality breeding bulls to Ugandan farmers.

  7. NEC T6 Industrial and Business Park: A development initiative aimed at boosting industrialization and business activities.

Recent Developments:

  • In April 2025, NEC and China Oil HBP Group (HBP) forged stronger ties in the energy sector, indicating NEC’s expanding role in energy-related projects.

  • On May 2, 2025, the West Nile Electoral Commission Office was opened, showcasing NEC’s involvement in infrastructure development.
