About Company
The Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT) is a Ugandan non-profit organization dedicated to empowering women and youth in rural and fishing communities to improve their social, economic, and political well-being. Founded in 1996 as the Katosi Women Fishing Group (KWFG), it evolved into KWDT in 2004 to coordinate multiple women’s groups across various districts .

Core Programs and Impact
KWDT operates across several thematic areas:

Economic Empowerment: Providing women with skills and resources to engage in agriculture, fisheries, and micro-businesses, enhancing their income-generating capacities.

Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH): Improving access to clean water and sanitation facilities, and promoting hygiene practices to ensure healthier communities.

Education: Supporting both formal and non-formal education initiatives, including vocational training and adult literacy programs, to increase educational opportunities for women and youth.

Environmental Conservation: Engaging in activities that promote sustainable environmental practices, such as tree planting and conservation education, to protect natural resources.
As of recent reports, KWDT coordinates 1,235 rural and fisher women organized into 52 groups across three districts: Mukono, and the islands of Kalangala and Buvuma .
Recognition and Partnerships
KWDT has been recognized for its impactful work, including receiving the third Kyoto World Water Grand Prize during the 6th World Water Forum . The organization collaborates with various national and international partners, such as the World Forum for Fish Workers and Fish Harvesters, Women for Water Partnership, and the Uganda Women’s Network, to amplify its efforts and reach.
