EDUKANS International Uganda, officially known as Edukans Education Services, is a branch of the Netherlands-based international NGO, Edukans Foundation. Established in Uganda in 2019, Edukans has been active in the country since 1994, focusing on enhancing the quality of education and vocational training for underprivileged children and unemployed youth.
Mission and Focus Areas
Edukans Uganda aims to strengthen the capacity of both public and private education and skills providers to deliver dynamic, relevant, inclusive, and safe quality education. The organization concentrates on four key areas:

Basic Education: Improving pupil retention and learning continuity, addressing the low primary school completion rates in Uganda.

Skills for Work and Life: Addressing youth unemployment by enhancing vocational education and aligning it with labor market needs.

Education in Emergencies: Supporting education continuity during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, by training teachers and providing resources.

Exchange Programs: Facilitating peer-to-peer learning and international exchanges to broaden educational perspectives.

Edukans employs several innovative tools and methodologies to achieve its objectives:

EDU Q-card: An assessment tool that provides schools with insights to develop and monitor improvement plans.

Active Teaching Methodology: A teacher professionalization approach that promotes interactive and student-centered learning.

Star School Quality Model: A framework focusing on enhancing the overall quality of education through various stakeholders, including teachers, learners, school management, and parents.

Work-Based Learning: Collaborating with Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and companies to provide competency-based on-the-job learning opportunities.

Impact and Achievements
In 2022, Edukans operated 42 projects across 10 countries, reaching over 456,000 children and young people, with more than 56,000 in emergency situations. In Uganda, the organization has been instrumental in training teachers, improving school management, and enhancing the employability of youth through vocational training.
