Overview & Mission
The King Faisal Hospital Rwanda Foundation is the nonprofit arm of King Faisal Hospital in Kigali. It was officially approved in 2020 and focuses on three main areas: health and research, social welfare, and education and training.
Objectives
Research Support
Provides funding, training, and opportunities for medical researchers.
Facilitates publishing, conference participation, and partnerships with academic institutions.
Builds local and international collaborations in health research.
Social Welfare & Patient Care
Offers financial assistance to patients unable to afford care.
Raises awareness about noncommunicable diseases, congenital conditions, and surgical diseases with emphasis on prevention and early detection.
Organizes surgical outreach camps to help reduce waiting lists in public hospitals.
Education & Training
Develops e-learning and digital tools for medical education.
Supports Continuing Medical Education (CME) to ensure health professionals stay updated.
King Faisal Hospital Rwanda (Context)
Role & Status
King Faisal Hospital is a multi-specialty referral hospital in Kigali, serving as one of Rwanda’s top tertiary care institutions. Since 2022, it has also been recognized as a teaching hospital.
History & Development
Built between 1987 and 1991 with support from the Saudi Fund for Development.
Government-owned but operated as a private company.
Capacity & Facilities
Around 160 beds.
Specialized units including ICU, neonatal care, surgical theaters, and emergency services.
Advanced equipment such as a 1.5 Tesla MRI, 128-slice CT scanner, a cardiovascular catheterization lab, and 3D/4D ultrasound in obstetrics.
Expanded outpatient block with new consultation rooms and upgraded private wing facilities.

Offers cardiology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, nephrology, oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, and emergency medicine.
Developing Rwanda’s first kidney transplant center.
