Overview
Trinity Musha Mines Ltd is part of Trinity Metals Ltd, a mining company in Rwanda established in 2022 through a joint venture with backing from Techmet. The company operates several mines in Rwanda, including Musha, Rutongo, and Nyakabingo.
The Musha Mine / Musha-Ntunga Project
Location: Situated in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province, about 45 km from Kigali.
License: Holds a 25-year mining licence that began in 2014.
Minerals: Primarily produces tin concentrate, with small amounts of coltan from satellite mines (Duha, Ntunga). Exploration has also revealed potential for lithium and tantalum in the Musha-Ntunga pegmatite.
Production: Approximately 20 tonnes of tin concentrate are produced monthly, with smaller contributions of coltan from nearby satellite sites.
Resource: The deposit is polymetallic, containing tin, tantalum, and lithium. Earlier assessments indicated around 9,000 tonnes of tin-tantalum resource, with high-grade lithium content of about 1.5% Li₂O.
Strategic & Development Plans
Trinity Metals plans to invest more than US$60 million over 3–5 years across its projects, including Musha, with a focus on modernization, efficiency, and new processing facilities.
A new phase of lithium exploration drilling has started at Ntunga, within the Musha project area.
The company also aims to establish formal resource and reserve reporting for greater transparency and long-term planning.
Contribution and Role
Musha is the second-largest tin producer in Rwanda, after Rutongo.
The mine plays an important role in Rwanda’s growing critical minerals sector, supporting the country’s push to build more value from its natural resources, particularly tin, tungsten, tantalum, and lithium.
