Presence in Kenya
Entry and Expansion

Majid Al Futtaim entered the Kenyan market in 2016 with the launch of its first Carrefour hypermarket at The Hub in Karen, Nairobi. Since then, the brand has steadily expanded with additional stores across the country.

Employment and Suppliers

Carrefour Kenya employs thousands of people across its stores. A large share of the products sold in its outlets are sourced locally:

Two-thirds of the fresh produce comes from Kenyan farmers.

Nearly all of the 30,000 items in store are provided by local suppliers and manufacturers, with about 99% of goods sourced within Kenya.

Store Size and Locations

The first hypermarket in Karen featured about 5,000 square metres of retail space. Today, Carrefour operates in multiple Nairobi locations and has expanded to other major towns in Kenya.

Contact Information

Carrefour Kenya’s main offices are located off Limuru Road in Nairobi, with a local postal address and customer service lines available for inquiries.

Recent Initiatives

In 2024, Majid Al Futtaim launched its first Retail Business School in Kenya. The initiative is designed to train and build capacity in the local retail workforce, supporting skills development and leadership training in the sector.

Impact

Majid Al Futtaim’s investment in Kenya has had significant benefits for the local economy:

It has created thousands of jobs directly in retail operations.

Its focus on sourcing from local farmers and suppliers supports Kenya’s agricultural value chain and boosts incomes for small producers.

Through training and skills development programs, the company is contributing to long-term sector growth and sustainability.
