Yako Bank Uganda Limited is a privately held Tier II credit institution regulated by the Bank of Uganda. Established in 2010, the bank transitioned from a microfinance institution to a licensed credit institution in 2020, allowing it to offer savings accounts and various loan products, though it is not authorized to provide checking accounts or engage in foreign exchange transactions .

History & Mission


Founded by Mrs. Vandana Dhariwal and Mr. Rajnish Jain, Yako Bank began as a microfinance entity and evolved into a Microfinance Deposit-Taking Institution (MDI) in 2015. In 2020, it was upgraded to a Tier II credit institution. The bank's mission is to provide affordable financial services through innovation and professional staff, aiming to be the most trusted financial institution in East Africa .

Yako Bank offers digital banking solutions, including Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) systems for secure transactions. Customers can also pay utility bills (UMEME & NWSC) at branches and access Airtel Money float services. The bank provides debit cards powered by Interswitch for convenient cash withdrawals .
