Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL), established in July 1946, is Uganda's pioneering and leading premium adult beverage company. Headquartered in Port Bell, Luzira, Kampala, UBL is a subsidiary of East African Breweries Limited (EABL), which holds a 98.2% stake. EABL itself is majority-owned by the global beverage giant Diageo






? Historical Overview




  • 1946: UBL was registered, becoming Uganda's first brewery.




  • 1950: Launched its flagship product, Bell Lager.




  • 1959: EABL acquired an interest in UBL, marking the beginning of regional expansion.




  • 1970s: Under the "Nakivubo Declaration," the Ugandan government nationalized UBL.




  • 1984: EABL regained control of UBL.




  • 1999: UBL acquired Uganda Distillers Limited, gaining the license to produce Uganda Waragi.




  • 2012: UBL became an affiliate of Diageo Plc

  • Beers: Bell Lager, Pilsner Lager, Tusker Cider, Senator Extra Lager.




  • Spirits: Uganda Waragi, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Baileys, Gordon's Gin, Captain Morgan.




  • Non-Alcoholic: Alvaro, a natural malt drink introduced in 2007 .

UBL operates a state-of-the-art brewery in Luzira, Kampala, with a production capacity exceeding 1.2 million hectolitres annually. Significant investments have been made to enhance production and sustainability, including a UGX 39.9 billion production line and an effluent treatment plant to manage industrial waste responsibly .
