Oil Palm Uganda Limited (OPUL) is a prominent agribusiness company in Uganda, operating as a joint venture between Wilmar International, Josovina Commodities, Bidco Uganda Limited, and the Government of Uganda. Established in 2002, OPUL spearheads the Kalangala Oil Palm Project, a significant initiative under the Ugandan Government’s Vegetable Oil Development Project (VODP), aimed at boosting domestic vegetable oil production.
Operations and Impact

Location: OPUL’s primary operations are based on Bugala Island in Kalangala District, where it manages over 6,500 hectares of oil palm plantations. Additionally, it supports more than 4,500 hectares cultivated by smallholder farmers. Facilities: The company operates two palm oil mills, each with a processing capacity of 20 tons per hour.

Expansion: OPUL is extending its model to other regions, including Masaka, Kyotera, and Buvuma, to replicate its integrated plantation and smallholder approach.
