June 2026 SASSA Grant Amounts Confirmed
The grant values introduced earlier in the 2026/27 financial year remain unchanged for June 2026. More than 19 million beneficiaries are expected to receive support through various grant categories.
Full June 2026 Grant Amounts
| Grant Type | Monthly Amount |

The increases implemented in April 2026 continue to benefit pensioners, persons with disabilities, foster caregivers, and families caring for vulnerable children. Beneficiaries do not need to reapply to receive these updated amounts, as the increases were automatically applied.
Official June 2026 Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed that grant payments will be processed during the first week of June using its staggered payment system.
Payment Schedule
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 2 June 2026
- Disability Grant and Care Dependency Grant: Wednesday, 3 June 2026
- Child Support Grant and Children’s Grants: Thursday, 4 June 2026
The staggered approach is designed to reduce overcrowding at pay points, ATMs, and participating retailers while improving safety and efficiency for beneficiaries.
Importantly, beneficiaries are not required to collect their money on the first day of payment. Once deposited, funds remain safely available in their accounts until they choose to withdraw them.
The SRD Grant Continues Until 2027
One of the most significant developments for grant recipients is the continuation of the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant.
Originally introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, the SRD grant now provides R370 per month to more than eight million working-age South Africans who are unable to support themselves. Government has allocated R36.4 billion to continue funding the programme until March 2027.
Unlike permanent grants, SRD payments are usually processed later in the month. Payment dates are determined after applications and beneficiary information have been verified. Most SRD payments are typically made between the 24th and the end of the month.
Who Qualifies for the R370 SRD Grant?
To qualify for the Social Relief of Distress grant, applicants must meet several requirements.
Applicants must:
- Be between 18 and 59 years old
- Be a South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylum seeker, or special permit holder
- Be unemployed
- Have no source of income or financial support
- Not receive UIF benefits
- Not receive an NSFAS stipend
SASSA advises applicants to regularly check their status and payment information through official platforms to ensure there are no delays.
Why Social Grants Matter More Than Ever
The Department of Social Development has proposed a R302 billion budget for the 2026/27 financial year, with the overwhelming majority allocated to social assistance programmes. According to government figures, R293 billion of that budget is earmarked for monthly grants supporting children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.
Deputy Minister of Social Development Ganief Hendricks emphasized the importance of social grants during a presentation to the National Assembly.
“Millions of South Africans rely on the social wage for dignity, hope, and survival.”
He also described SASSA as a “vital pillar” of South Africa’s democracy, highlighting the agency’s role in supporting vulnerable communities during difficult economic conditions.
Child Support Grants Continue Supporting Millions
The Child Support Grant remains one of the country’s largest social assistance programmes.
The monthly payment currently stands at R580 per child, helping caregivers provide essential support for children across South Africa. In certain cases involving orphaned or kinship children, caregivers may also qualify for an additional R280 top-up, providing extra assistance to vulnerable households.
Children’s grants, including Foster Child Grants and Care Dependency Grants, will be paid from 4 June 2026.
Digital Services and e-Life Certification
SASSA continues to modernize its services through digital platforms aimed at reducing long queues and improving access.
One of the most important innovations is the e-Life Certification platform, which allows beneficiaries to complete annual life verification remotely using electronic Know Your Client (eKYC) biometric technology. The service can be accessed through the SASSA Online Services Portal.
The agency has also introduced:
- Smart queue management systems
- Self-service kiosks
- Wi-Fi-enabled service points
- Online grant administration tools
These measures are intended to streamline services and reduce waiting times at busy SASSA offices.
Safety Tips for Grant Collection
SASSA has encouraged beneficiaries to remain vigilant when collecting grants.
Recommended safety measures include:
- Traveling with a trusted family member when possible
- Avoiding carrying large amounts of cash
- Remaining alert at ATMs and payment points
- Refusing assistance from strangers
- Reporting suspicious activity to security personnel or police
These precautions are particularly important for older beneficiaries, who may be more vulnerable to theft and fraud during payment periods.
Looking Ahead
The June 2026 payment cycle reflects both continuity and stability in South Africa’s social assistance system. With grant increases already implemented, payment dates confirmed, and the SRD programme secured until March 2027, millions of beneficiaries can count on continued support in the months ahead.
As economic pressures persist, social grants remain a crucial source of financial relief for pensioners, people with disabilities, caregivers, children, and unemployed adults. The combination of sustained funding, digital modernization, and expanded beneficiary services underscores the central role SASSA continues to play in supporting vulnerable households across the country.
